Give every kid access to the education that works best for them!
The purpose of a great public education is to empower people to live the kinds of lives they want to live.
The current public education system has become outdated. It seeks to run kids into cogs in a kind of national machine. This is a view that espouses the supposed virtue of cranking out kids to meet arbitrary standards based not on their interests or skills but based on the perceived needs of our society. We expect our students to be just like everyone else, only better. As a result, we used standardized measures to sort and rank them against each other.
We believe that the K-12 system should be transformed to one that puts kids at the center of the discussion and builds the system about what works best for each student.
If we want students who are learning at a high level, we must embrace the radical notion of asking them what they’re interested in learning and then fostering within them a love of learning instead of forcing them to learn what we think is important.
The transformational change we need must recognize that every child is a unique individual. We need to be talking about helping every kid reach their full potential. That’s going to look different for every kid. We should respect the dignity of each student by giving them educational experiences they can customize to their unique interests and needs.
